It is quite exciting having a whole new city to explore – and a car to go exploring in! (Something I didn’t have in Sydney and so restricted my explorations over there). I had heard Eastbourne was a cute little town and only about a half an hour drive from Wellington city, so on a sensationally sunny Saturday I set out for a little excursion around the harbour to check it out.
Armed with camera in hand, I pulled up by the beautiful beach – which might I add I had completely to myself except for a couple of sea birds – and went to have a looksie and the piles of driftwood which were decorating the shoreline.
I loved how people had creatively arranged it into sculptures. Also, just look the incredible blues in the background in the sea and sky! It couldn’t have been a better day.

After a short wander along the beach I headed back into the tiny township for a poke around the cute little shops there. With the risk of sounding really old here I’ll admit that I don’t actually enjoying shopping very much in the city, but I love looking around quaint stores and second hand/antique shops in smaller towns!
After nearly buying a number of second hand books and restraining myself from some other things I could have happily purchased, I decided it must be time to find some lunch. I jumped back into my trusty car and headed a short distance back around the coast to Days Bay. Not long after [easily] finding a car park I found myself seated with a tasty meal in the sunshine at Chocolate Dayz Cafe – right across the road from the water.
It really was a lovely spot to visit; I’ll definitely go back there for a weekend outing! Perhaps by ferry even, that would be fun if it was weather like this.
Of course, the day wouldn’t have been complete without one of these….
