These couple of photos are just from my iPhone and show the dense black cloud of smoke which was over Sydney on Thursday evening from the bush fires which have been burning in NSW.
Walking outside the office at the end of the day on Thursday was like walking into some eerie scene from a film. The air you inhaled smelt strongly of smoke which had been brought this direction by the warm, strong wind and every now and then flakes of burnt material would fly by. It was so dark it felt as though it should have been due to a thunderstorm and it was hard to believe that the thick cloud overhead was purely smoke.
The storm-like wind continued into the evening, and as the cloud got pushed away the setting sun could be seen and we gained a small snippet of light before darkness fell:
