I seem to remember that a while back I had posted about starting to read some classic novels which are on my “I really SHOULD have read that” list. (If I never posted about that, then welcome to my plan).
If a post of an earlier date does exist regarding what I’ve managed to get through so far, then I would imagine it would mention Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, and Rebecca. I wish I had a long list of of titles to add to this but the sad truth is I find it hard to snatch bits of time to enjoying reading. I can add The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James and The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy. Both of which I am glad I have read, and not just so I can cross them off a list – I actually did like them both.
There were many fantastic words which I discovered in the course of reading these two books. Now I just need to try and remember their definitions and try and embed them as part of my vocabulary…
My next venture, which I have just begun today, is Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott. I am only three or four chapters into it but am already loving the way it is written. The descriptions or characters, scenes etc is wonderful.
